Proposals for a residential neighbourhood in the London Borough of Newham. The proposal required the radical reworking of an existing permission, including new elevations, site layout and landscape architecture.

The competition for the site on the Oder is an opportunity to deliver something very rare: a distinctive architectural proposal to contribute to the experience of the city as it is seen and understood from the river. It is a small site, and requires ingenuity of planning to establish a new city space, but its location is spectacular, and offers the opportunity to contrast with the city, by being different, and contribute to it because it will be seen from great distances. Because of this, we have developed a proposal that is sculptural in its impact, and familiar in its reference.

The peninsula site lends itself to a triangular building, and is separate from the city. For us it is an opportunity to create a separate experience. Port and river cities, are animated by ships berthed alongside quays. Here, we propose to use the ship as a concept for a new building, and exploit what is special about a vessel: its difference from the city. The ship is a guest in the city: both a destination, and the beginnings of a voyage of discovery. While the built form is derives from the triangular shape of the site, it is not dominated by. Rather, we have cut the shape, fragmented it, so that it is an assemblage of built elements of accommodation, which has, at its heart, an atrium space that reaches down to the public space, and up into the sky.

The design of new shopping and leisure facilities for a key site in Woolwich town centre. The client was keen to use the local council’s desire to relocate leisure facilities, and saw the opportunity to combine these with extensive new retail.

Revisions and rethinking of the proposed masterplan for Convoys Wharf by Aedas Architects. This high density residential and commercial masterplan required a sensitive reinterpretation of principles established in the original masterplan by the Richard Rogers Partnership.

The masterplan included for a new library, kitchens, dining rooms, medical room, storage, and cistern for storage of water. The building was to be constructed from reinforced concrete and limestone collected from the mountain.
